Is the clinic public or private?

Clinique Médicale Step is a RAMQ-affiliated public clinic. That means that all of our highly qualified family medicine doctors and medical specialists provide services covered by the Quebec Health Insurance Plan. Our on-site collaborative team of allied healthcare providers is privately operated.

Is the clinic taking new patients?

The clinic will cycle through periods of welcoming new patients depending on doctor availability. Please note that all new patient registration is done via our readily accessible website.

If you or your child does not have a primary care physician, the Quebec Family Doctor Finder (GAMF) portal is a useful tool to register on a waitlist for one.

Our specialists accept new patients depending on availability. Patients can request an appointment via our website. Please note that a referral is required to schedule an appointment with a specialist.

How can I book an appointment?

To book an appointment with our team of family doctors, specialists, or allied care providers, please use our user-friendly website. This is the method of booking appointments at our clinic.

Is there parking?

Yes we have a conveniently located free outdoor parking lot that has reserved spots for our patients. The lot is situated behind the clinic and is accessed from Ave Kildare, just east of Blvd. Cavendish. There is building access directly from the parking lot. There is also ample street parking in the vicinity. Kindly pay attention to city parking regulations.

Do you offer vaccines?

We do not offer vaccination in the clinic. There is a lab in our building offering private vaccinations. CLSC René-Cassin (across the street) and CLSC Benny Farm (5 minute drive away) offer public access depending on postal code.

How do I renew my child’s prescription medication or request a change?

If a prescription needs to be renewed/altered or if a mild allergic reaction occurs while taking a prescription medication, you have two options:
1) Inform your pharmacist and have them communicate with us via fax at (514) 320-5757.
2) Book a follow-up appointment with your primary healthcare provider via our website.

Do all results of tests (labs or imaging) get communicated back?

Yes. Our aim is to provide both positive and negative results to our patients as soon as available. If you haven’t received your results in a timely fashion, please email the clinic at results@cliniquestep.ca so we can retrieve them for you. Note that some labs can take several weeks to be performed. Your doctor will guide you on when to anticipate results.

How can I book an appointment?

To book an appointment with our team of family doctors, specialists, or allied care providers, please use our user-friendly website. This is the method of booking appointments at our clinic.

Can I make a same-day or next-day appointment?

Yes. One of our most important goals is to provide the community with accessible healthcare. Our online booking platform, updated in real time, facilitates same-day and next-day appointments.

Can I bring multiple children to an appointment?

In order to help ensure that each patient receives the quality of care they deserve, each patient requires their own individual appointment.

Can I get an appointment without a referral to see a specialist?

All of our specialists require a referral from your primary care physician or other authorized member of the healthcare network. Patients are assigned care based on the urgency of the medical attention needed.

How do I cancel an appointment?

Both new and follow up appointments are very important. Your appointment confirmation, sent by email and/or text message, will provide you with a link to reschedule an appointment. To cancel an appointment, please call us at (514) 307-5757 and dial 2, or email us at info@cliniquestep.ca.

Appointments must be canceled a minimum of 24 hours before the scheduled appointment time. A fee of $50-$75 (depending on the appointment type) may be charged for missed appointments, as well as any appointments cancelled with less than 24 hour notice.

Can I show up late to the appointment?

Please note that arriving more than 15 minutes late to an appointment for any reason may be considered a “no show” and may result in a fee of $50-$75. The fee is determined based on the type of visit.

Are all your services covered by Medicare?

Clinique Médicale Step is a RAMQ-affiliated public clinic. That means that all of our highly qualified family medicine doctors and medical specialists provide services covered by the Quebec Health Insurance Plan (i.e. RAMQ or Medicare Card). Our on site collaborative team of allied health care providers is privately operated.

Can I come to the clinic even if my child doesn’t have a Quebec Health Insurance Card (RAMQ card)?

Yes, of course. One of our goals is to increase equitable access to all. We accept international and out-of-province patients as well as refugees. Patients must pay on site and can be reimbursed by their insurance directly. We accept cash, debit, and most major credit cards. We do not accept cheques.

If my child’s RAMQ coverage gets validated after my visit, can I get reimbursed?

Without a valid RAMQ on the day of the appointment, there will be fees to pay to the clinic. These fees are reimbursable by the RAMQ, if eligible. The clinic accepts cash, debit, and most major credit cards. For additional information, please contact the RAMQ at 514-864-3411

What is Well Care?

Well Care involves routine medical check-ups to assess growth, development, and overall health. These important appointments may also include age-appropriate screening, preventative medicine, and an opportunity to address any health-related concerns.

What should I bring to my child’s first appointment?

Please bring any previous medical records, your child’s immunization booklet, and your insurance information (e.g. RAMQ, private).

How can I prepare for my newborn’s first healthcare visit?

We suggest bringing medical records (including birth records and discharge papers), feeding logs (baby’s feeding times and durations to discuss feeding patterns), and a list of any questions you may have. This preparation can help make the visit as positive and informative as possible, ensuring all your concerns are addressed.

How soon should my newborn have their first checkup?

We highly recommend scheduling your newborn’s first checkup within 2-4 weeks after birth.

What is Urgent Care?

Urgent care is medical care provided for illnesses or injuries which require prompt attention but are typically not serious enough to require hospital emergency room services. Consult our Urgent Care page for examples.

Who can book an Urgent Care visit?

We offer appointments to both registered and non-registered patients through our online booking system.

What is Specialty Care?

Specialists focus on the management of specific conditions and/or body systems. They work with your primary care physician to provide care based on their respective specialties.

Who can book a Specialty Care visit?

All of our specialists require a referral from your primary care physician or other authorized member of the healthcare network, except for dentistry. Patients are assigned care based on the urgency of the medical attention needed.

While we work with both public and private services, on-site Allied Care services at Clinique Médicale Step are private. We accept cash, debit and most major credit cards. We do not accept cheques.

Is the clinic wheelchair accessible?

Yes, the facilities are fully accessible to serve all individuals with varying needs. The building has elevator access and ADA compliant washrooms directly on-site.
